Nirasaki Mother Plant
In 1986, Mitsui Kinzoku's Automotive Parts and Components Division begam production of door latches at a plant situated on an approximately 200,000-square-meter site in Nirasaki, Yamanashi Prefecture. Operating with a staff of 250, this "mother plant" has production capabilities of 500,000 door latches per month, and output from this facility accounts for 19% of the domestic market.

Supporting the high-performance capabilities of this plant are an integrated production control system that uses a large host computer to enable "parts on demand"; high integration of processes in each division; and a production system that incorporates manufacturing, sales and technologies.

Mitusui Kinzoku's door latch production dates back to 1966 following the formation of a technical tie-up with Wilmot Breeden of the United Kingdom, in the previous year. The Nirasaki Plant integrates Mitsui Kinzoku's strengths as a comprehensive manufacturer of nonferrous metals materials with expertise in materials as well as its 30 years of accumulated know-how and technologies in automobile functional components.

The Nirasaki Plant also serves as a mother plant for satellite companies and domestic bases in Kamioka, Gifu Prefecture, and Omuta, Fukoka Prefecture, as well as for Mitsui Kinzoku's overseas door latch production bases. All technologies, expertise, and strategies for carrying out our global door latch operations emanate from this mother plant.
